LECTURES

At the present Scott MacLeod is offering three lectures:

1. What an Artist Should Know About Self Promotion; This lecture Scott MacLeod offers both the emerging artist and the experienced artist practical information about portfolio presentation, gallery exhibitions, marketing and selling artwork, grants and art residency programs. At each lecture I give handouts with the information I am covering.

Duration: 30 minutes, question period 30 minutes.

Cost: $250.00

2. Similarities in the Oral and Art Traditions of Mexican, Celtic, First Nations, and Viking-influenced Art In this lecture, Scott MacLeod discusses some of the similarities that exist in Mexican, Celtic, First Nations and Viking art and archeology. As an artist MacLeod has traveled and experienced some of the oral and art-making traditions in these cultures. Upon doing so he discovered that long before the written word art, mythology, music, and poetry played a critical role in sustaining these specific traditional cultures. In this lecture he emphasizes the fact that there is no pure race, and tries to illustrate how cultures intermingled then and how they continue to intermingle now. As part of the lecture MacLeod will discuss the influence of these four cultures and traditions on the exhibitions he created between 1987 and 2003.

It is a long-term project and exhibition, which also contains historical storyboards of the buildings, businesses, bridges, boats and locks of the Lachine Canal region. MacLeod's aim in this exhibition was to examine the Lachine Canal through a comparative artistic study of its former glory to the present day. This lecture is offered as a personal guided tour to historical societies and groups of 10 to 30 people. The tours are in both English and French.

TESTIMONIALS:

Consultation for Students: "I just wanted you to know that I received my acceptance to McGill in Architecture. I know that I couldn't have done it without you and I truly appreciate all the time that you gave to me as well as all the great ideas that we used in the construction of my portfolio. Thanks to your private courses (which I know I was lucky to be a part of). I was able to construct a well-rounded and complete portfolio, which I'm sure played a HUGE part in getting me accepted to McGill."

Valerie Zollman
Student of Architecture, McGill University

Consultation for Artists: "I just wanted to thank you for the consultation you gave me regarding my future as a photographer. Your fifteen years of experience and education as an artist gave me the tools and resources I needed in order to research potential residencies, grants, and organize my portfolio in the best manner. In a brief consultation, I have all the information I need to start the research in the field of photography, which will keep me busy for some time. Also, your experience in the art milieu helped me better understand what the contemporary themes are, and what I need to doing order to get my work out in the real world."

Gallery Presentation: "Scott MacLeod exhibited his Viking-related art at the Swedish American Museum from June 13th to September 31st, 2002. It was a very well received exhibit with good attendance. Scott came to Chicago for the opening and gave a short talk about his research and art. He also gave a much appreciated gallery talk a couple of days after the opening. Scott has gained a wealth of knowledge about the Vikings but what is so remarkable is that he has an ability to relate it to young people and make them excited. Scott has a very special way of engaging people in his projects."

Hi Scott,

I've been accepted at Dalhousie University, in Architecture! It was a last

minute decision that I took to come here. I was planning to go to

Universite Laval which I got an early response but finally decided to come

to Halifax because of the co-op program.

I wanted to thank you for all the help that you gave me for the portfolio,

you were a great mentor and teacher. If you need a copy of the portfolio, I

am more than happy to send it to you. Let's keep in touch!

Thank you again for everything,

Jenny Mecksavanh

Student of Architecture, Dalhousie University
